How to Become a Member of the PTA

Please accept our invitation to join and become a partner in education. CHES PTA membership supports our programs and the statewide work of the PTA.  Typically, a membership drive occurs in September in which you submit your membership form and payment to your child's homeroom parent.  If you missed that opportunity and want to become a PTA member, you can register September - February by filling out the attached PTA Membership form and submitting your payment to your child's homeroom parent.

The Adopt a Book Program has started!

The Adopt a Book program will be starting after the February break. You will have an opportunity to buy a book to be donated to the Charlton Heights School Library. The book can be donated in honor of your family, your child, or your child’s teacher/mentor. We will be setting up a web site for you to look at and choose a book. More information will be sent home after the break. All orders and payments are due by March 15th. If you have any questions please contact Dee Capella at 384-1493 or ctrybandit@gmail.com. Thanks again for your support of our Library. With the strain of our financial times, both at home and at our school, your donation is greatly appreciated.

The 15th Annual Adopt-A-Book program is here!

Select and donate a brand new hardcover book to our school library! Make a lasting gift in your child’s name or adopt a book to honor your child’s teacher! Books will be distributed on Teacher Appreciation Day in May. (sponsored by the Charlton Heights PTA for the Charlton Heights families and friends)

To choose a book visit the website (Amazon.com, go to ‘wish lists’ and type in ‘CHARLTON HEIGHTS’). Several lists will appear separated into picture books, chapter books or non-fiction. After you have selected a book, please e-mail me the following information at mail to: ctrybandit@gmail.com :

  • Book Title
  • Author
  • Picture book, Chapter book or Nonfiction (this helps me find it)
  • Please write the teacher’s name you are donating the book in honor of
  • State who the book is from (i.e. your family or your child)
  • Send a check made out to the Charlton Heights PTA to: Dee Capella  (c/o
  • Meghan in Mrs. Hall’s class)
  • We will do the ordering for you *

If you have any questions about the program, please contact Dee Capella at 384-1493 or email me any questions. All orders and payments are due by March 15th.

The Charlton Heights Elementary School PTA is a volunteer, non-profit organization made up of parents (that's right - moms and dads), teachers and community members who want to make a difference in our children's school experience.  All parents are welcomed and appreciated -- and we want you to know that you have a "voice".  And you know what, we can never have enough volunteers.  You are wanted, needed and the time you give is "priceless"!

Family involvement is what we are all about:

  • parents donate an average of 4,000 - 5,000 volunteer hours each school year
  • children and parents take part in over 40 different PTA sponsored programs and activities throughout the school year
  • dollars raised through PTA fundraisers go to support programs offered to students, with 75% of our PTA budget going to to help fund the "Arts In Education" programs that brings artists, authors, storytellers, musicians, and dance groups directly into our school throughout the year to every grade level
  • parents get to meet other parents, meet their children's friends, and make a positive contribution to their community when they volunteer

What are some of our PTA Goals?

  • to increase parent and family involvement
  • to provide academic and social enrichment opportunities to children
  • to provide rich, educational experiences for CHES children
  • to effectively communicate PTA news and information in a timely manner allowing for a stronger bridge between school and home

How is the PTA funded?

While a small portion of money comes from membership dues (note that when you join the annual CHES PTA as an individual for $5.00, $4.00 goes to NYS PTA and CHES keeps just $1.00), the majority of the funding for our programs and activities comes from our two fundraisers.  Without these critical fundraisers (Entertainment Books and The Walk for the Arts) the CHES PTA wouldn't be able to sponsor the many programs that enrich our children's lives.

So what are you waiting for, get involved today.....

When parents get involved in their children's education, it pays off!  Research shows that children whose parents are actively involved in the school are more likely to earn higher grades, adapt more quickly, have better social skills and so much more.  Parent involvement is great for children, great for teachers and great for our school!  Help us make Charlton Heights Elementary School the BEST that it can be - volunteer today!
