Charlton Heights Programs and Committees from A-L Every year the PTA runs over 40 programs that help support student learning and builds bridges between school, home and the community. Of course, these programs could not be offered without the generous support from parent volunteers, teachers and the community. Our four fundraiser programs help to finance these programs and some monies come to us through "passive fundraising". Passive fundraising allows you to conduct your usual shopping or clip labels while letting that local business do the donating to our School. Where does your money go? |

Adopt-A-Book: This program allows families to select a book and donate it in honor of a special person or just give it as a gift for any special occasion. It is a great way to share your love of reading by supplying new books to the classrooms or the school library. Afterschool Enrichment Clubs: Provides enrichment opportunities to students in grades 1 - 5 after school for 3 – 4 weeks in the winter or spring. Arts in Education: Arts in Education is a program that brings artists, authors, storytellers, bookmakers, musicians, dance groups etc. directly into our schools. Book Fair: The Scholastic Book Fair fundraiser is held in October, as well as a Buy One Get One Free Book Fair in the early spring. Career Awareness Jamboree: This program comes around once every three years. It exposes students to the various careers with exciting presentations by parents and community members. Charlton Heights Elementary School Student Publishing (CHESS): Provides an opportunity for students to publish their own original stories. Students can submit stories written at school or at home. CHES PTA Scholarship: Coordinate the distribution and rating of scholarship applications resulting in awarding three (3) scholarships to graduating seniors from our BH-BL High School. Children’s Garden: Throughout the year students have an opportunity to participate in gardening workshops. In the spring, children plant vegetables, flowers, and herbs. In autumn they harvest and enjoy goodies made from their crops. Curiosity Shop: During this after school program children can register for a club of their choice that exposes them to an area of study they may not typically have an opportunity to explore. Eileen Briggs Art Scholarship: Coordinate the nomination process resulting in awarding two (2) art scholarships to graduating 5th graders.

Fun with Fundraising: Fundraising is the method of raising money to finance PTA programs and projects. The program chair decides what fundraiser(s) to run over the course of the school year to that will support the needs and goals of the CHES PTA. Typcally, in September the fundraiser includes the sale of both Gift Wrap and Entertainment Books. In the event that an additional fundraiser is needed, a spring fundraiser will be held - typically a Flower Bulb Sale. Family Programs - Monster Mash: The program offers family-style events to Charlton Heights students and their families. Recently, a "Monster Mash" (Halloween Party and Dance) has been offered the Friday night before Halloween. Fifth Grade Event: The program organizes the "end of the elementary years” festivities for the fifth grade class. Holiday Shop: This program affords children the opportunity to holiday shop for their loved ones independently during a school day in early December. Homeroom Parents: Two parents are assigned to each classroom to support the teacher and assist with the organization of classroom parties and activities. Hospitality: Provide baked items and beverages to events throughout the year. Typically you will provide goodies and set up for the following: Welcome to New Families Night; Teacher Breakfast the First Day of School; Mother/Daughter Event; Kindergarten Orientation. Ice Cream Social at "The Walkabout": The Walkabout is held during the month of May and it allows parents to walk through the entire school to see all the hard work their children have done throughout the school year with an Ice Cream Social to cap off the night. Kindergarten Orientation: This program is an introductory program for incoming kindergarteners during the month of May. It is designed to welcome the kindergarteners and their parents to Charlton Heights. Label Programs: This passive fundraiser earns money or points that directly benefit CHES by asking families to simply register or shop as you normally would through local and commercial businesses. Those businesses then reward our school with either a cash award or new equipment. Our school participates in a number of these fundraisers - the following support CHES directly: Hannaford Helps, Price Chopper’s Tools for Schools, Box Tops for Education; while the Campbell’s Soup label program supports the PTA. Library Volunteers: Coordinate volunteers to work in the school library to assist students with book selections, reshelve books, or pull books for a particular class. |
