Program Description: Star of the Week
Funding: The executive board will announce the funding for this program.
Program Dates: year long
Volunteers Needed:
- 1 Chairperson – 1 or 2 Co-Chairpersons – only one chair needed, but one for shadowing would be ideal. Need to send out correspondence and organize folders.
- Worker Bees - 3-7 volunteers are helpful so that they can sign up for one month's worth of star hanging.
Time Commitment Expected:
- Chairperson – September/October will require about 4-6 hours total, 1 hour for the rest of the year.
- Co-Chairperson – none needed, except for shadowing.
- Worker Bees – 3-7 volunteers could change the star board by putting up new students stars from each class on the end of the day Friday or first thing Monday morning on a weekly basis for one month. This takes about 15 minutes or so a week and can be done any time the building is open.
Skills Needed: some computer and organizantional skills.
Chairperson Responsibilities:

Mid September – get class list from main office. Photocopy stars and collate with notes to parents and teachers. Each grade gets a different color star (save pink for the Kindergarten. Create an announcement list for the weekly postings.

October 1st – send stars home with students. Put collection box up in teachers lounge above mailboxes.

October 15th – send memo to teachers to collect and deposit stars. Set up a monthly schedule for volunteers to put up stars.

Mid to late-October – start the Star of the Week board. Leave extra blank stars with main office.

Throughout the Year – remind volunteers a few days before they are scheduled to put up the stars.

May-June – at end of the year -- once all stars have been posted, return all stars to teachers.
Meeting and Planning Schedule: could be done completely through email and phone calls outside or during school hours.
